SHANGHAI, CHINA — The chief architect of the world's second tallest building says it could be a blessing in disguise.
The Shanghai Tower was opened for a preview this weekend and Marshall Strabala explained why he was happy to be number two: "No no no, that's the world's tallest building curse. So when Sears Tower was built there was a recession, when the Petronas Towers were built there was a recession, when the Burj Khalifa was built there was a recession. This is not the world's tallest building so there's no recession."

The Tower is scheduled to be completed this summer. It has 120 floors and is the tallest building in China at 2073 feet.
Even at that height is it dwarfed by the world's tallest building in Dubai.
You'd have to stack PPG Place on top of the Shanghai Tower to even come close to the height of the Burj Khalifa.
