Armed Man In Edgewood Standoff Had Bow And Arrow

EDGEWOOD, Pa.,None — Police said a SWAT team that responded to a call that an Edgewood man was armed and threatening to harm himself was able to get the man to surrender and found he had a bow and arrow.

Edgewood police said Jesse Mateer, 29, won't face criminal charges in the standoff early Wednesday, but police said he will have a mental evaluation.

Police were summoned by Mateer's father, who lives in State College, and said his son was making threats to take his life.

Police said Matieer, 29, lives alone in a house on Gordon Street, which was blocked off during the standoff.

Police said Mateer refused to communicate with officers and instead text-messaged his father and told them he wanted police to leave.

Police said after several hours of SWAT teams using flash-bangs and other methods to get Matieer out of his house, they chose to end the standoff.

"They were able to use the pepper spray to get him in the living room area. When they breached the door, they found him on the couch and that's when they took him into custody. He said nothing," Edgewood Police Chief Robert Payne said.
