At-Home Caretaker Accused Of Stealing From Employer, Police Say

CARNEGIE, Pa.,None — Carnegie police said an at-home caretaker stole from a woman's purse and charged more than $200 on her credit card.

Jennifer Cisar said she posted an advertisement on the website Craigslist looking for someone to take care of her husband, who suffers from muscular dystrophy.

Cisar said Nicole Kerekes responded to the ad and was immediately hired.

"She seemed reliable and dependable. She was able to start right away," Cisar said.

Carnegie police said 23-year-old Kerekes is actually a criminal and heroin addict who stole from Cisar's purse on the first day of the job.

"We're very angry. I feel very violated," said Cisar.

Police said Kerekes used the stolen credit card to purchase gasoline for other people in exchange for cash.

"She would use the credit card to buy gas and the deal for the other person would be to pay half as much. Then she'd get her cash," said Sgt. Tom Oros of Carnegie police.

Investigators said Kerekes admitted that she needed the cash to buy heroin.

"Investigate people who are coming into your home. Ask for ID and get a background check," said Cisar.
