PITTSBURGH — New York-based Acram Group may have originally applied for a $6 million grant for a major office tower redevelopment in the Strip District, but that didn’t stop the firm from getting a $1 million grant to demolish the New Federal Cold Storage building, long better known as the Wholey building.

The grant to support the demolition of the giant Strip District building is just one of a slew of new grant awards detailed on the Pennsylvania Department of Community and Economic Development website through the state’s Redevelopment Assistance Capital Program.

With grants bestowed to projects in counties statewide, Allegheny County drew in more than $34 million in RACP grant awards in the program in the newly announced grantees for 2021, released on Dec. 6.
