Highmark awards $750,000 to Pittsburgh Penguins’ Hunt Armory Ice Rink

PITTSBURGH — On Thursday, elected officials and representatives from Highmark Inc. and the Pittsburgh Penguins gathered at the Hunt Armory Ice Rink in Shadyside to announced renewed funding for the project, which will secure its near-term future.

The funding, which totals $750,000, will be given to the Pittsburgh Penguins Foundation, which operated the rink for its first-ever season this past winter. The grant is through Highmark’s Bright Blue Futures charitable giving initiative, which launched with the announcement.

“Right here in this facility, grants like the one that we are awarding today, demonstrate Highmark Bright Blue Futures in action. We are honored to stand alongside our nonprofit partners under this roof today,” Kenya T. Boswell, senior vice president of Community Affairs for Highmark Health, said.
