PITTSBURGH — More than a year after the plan was originally announced, Highmark Health presented its $20 million proposal to renovate the lower floor of its Fifth Avenue Place headquarters to the Pittsburgh Planning Commission.
With the architecture firm of AE7 leading the design, it’s a project to reorient the public entrance of one of downtown’s biggest office buildings and create a new look for a location close to all the pedestrian activity generated by nearby Point State Park.
“The idea is to create a more transparent view into this corporate lobby for Highmark and make the entrance more open and inviting,” said Teresa Bucco, an architect for AE7, representing Highmark in the plan.
One of the most noticeable changes in the plan is to replace what is now a golden arch entrance to the building with a squared off front, expected to make the interior lobby more open and inviting.
