PIT continues to pick up gains in cargo operations, passenger traffic rebounds

PITTSBURGH — Operating statistics at Pittsburgh International Airport continued to improve month-over-month, picking up noticeable gains in cargo operations during the month of May.

According to the Allegheny County Airport Authority (ACAA), which manages PIT, cargo is up nearly 12% compared to last May, with a 6% increase in mail and a 13% increase in freight year-over-year. Year-to-date, cargo is up 17% through May due to a 13% increase in mail and an 18% increase in freight.

Qatar Airways Co. “continues to contribute” to the airport’s increased cargo operations, as do shipments from domestic partners United Parcel Service Inc. and FedEx Corp., ACAA CEO Christina Cassotis said. May also showed the first initial impacts on increased cargo shipments at PIT as part of the recently announced Amazon Prime Air and Finnair deals.
