Pitt offers update on plans for new recreation and wellness center

PITTSBURGH — The University of Pittsburgh has updated its plans to construct a new Recreation and Wellness Center for students at the site of the former O’Hara Garage and Learning Research and Development Center building.

The new center, which is being built as a part of the Pittsburgh Campus Master Plan, is meant to link the university’s upper and lower campuses and is expected to open in fall 2024. The university expects to break ground in spring 2022 after finishing work on the LRDC.

“This project began with listening to students, and their voices were loud and clear,” said Chancellor Patrick Gallagher. “They wanted better recreational opportunities and experiences at Pitt. From day one, we’ve made it a priority to engage students as true partners in planning the center and bringing our shared vision to life.”
