PITTSBURGH — A popular Squirrel Hill sushi restaurant named Chaya Japanese Cuisine announced on Facebook that it will be shutting down for good after 20 years of business. The Murray Avenue restaurant became known for its authentic sushi and other Japanese cuisines across its two kaiseki & omakase menus.
“Thank you very much for your continued patronage of the ‘Chaya,’ the post reads. “Since it opened in 2001, it has been supported by everyone. We are very sorry to inform you that we are scheduled to close the business on January 30, 2021.”
The restaurant imported the fish for its sushi either fresh from Japan via air cargo or from New York and had a policy of never using frozen fish when possible.
