PITTSBURGH — BJ’s Wholesale Club, a membership-based retailer operating in the same niche as Costco and Sam’s Club, has been in advanced negotiations to open its first store in the region at The Block Northway, according to sources familiar with the deal.
An executive for LRC Realty, which redeveloped the former enclosed mall on McKnight Road into a revamped shopping destination, declined to comment.

A spokesperson for Massachusetts-based BJ’s (NYSE: BJ) was not immediately available for comment.
In a current business environment in which most of normal daily life is being temporarily shut down due to the pandemic crisis, it’s a challenge to know how any business is going to continue to commit to expansion plans with so many unknowns. On the website for The Block Northway, the listing for most of the stores indicate they’re largely closed until further notice, shut down along with most retailers and restaurants due to the pandemic emergency.
