South Fayette approves new BJ’s Wholesale Club store for Newbury Market site

PITTSBURGH — After more than 15 years, the Newbury Market master plan in South Fayette has a retail anchor fully approved to establish a new store expected to draw regular shoppers to the long-delayed project.

On Wednesday evening, the South Fayette Board of Commissioners voted to give final approval for a new 99,000-square-foot BJ’s Wholesale Club store to set up on a parcel in the commercial center of the plan, leaving only building permits to be processed and approved before the store can go forward.

Andrea Iglar, director of communications and community development for South Fayette Township, indicated the retailer expects to start building a new store to able able to open it by November of next year.

“South Fayette Township is pleased to welcome BJ’s Wholesale Club and see the Newbury project moving forward,” she said in an email. “We are optimistic that this additional anchor business will spur further development at Newbury and help the site reach its full potential.”
