WASHINGTON, Pa.,None — The Meadows Racetrack and Casino will take delivery Monday of its new "smart" casino chips, which will include new cutting-edge microchip technology designed to prevent counterfeiting.
The chips will be loaded under armored guard into The Meadows's vault until they can be used during the July 6 test date. During the delivery, each table game will be fitted with RFID "readers," which verify the chips that are being used are genuine.
The technology behind smart chips is known as RFID. The Meadows is the only casino in Western Pennsylvania to use the RFID technology. More expensive than traditional casino chips, the Meadows invested $360,000 for 184,500 chips. The chips range in denomination from $1 to $5,000.
With RFID readers, The Meadows can also ccurately track how much a guest wagers - much like it already can do with slot machine play - in order to more accurately reward guest play. Readers also will be used by cashiers to immediately tally winnings, as well as detect any potential counterfeits.
