PITTSBURGH,None — Cyber criminals are known to target individuals, but now a local restaurant said they too have fallen victim to their schemes.
Owners of Peppi's Sandwich Shop in North Side said they received an online order from a person who claimed to be ordering 150 sandwiches for his father's birthday.
"The scam is you are the propriety end up paying their courier or delivery person with your own money," said owner Jeff Trebac.
Trebac said the scammers are able to achieve that by requesting that the courier's fee be added to the online order total. The cash then is taken from the company's register to pay the courier.
"So you're out of your cash and the credit card will never go through," said Trebac.
Trebac said this was not the first time that someone has tried to take advantage of his company using a similar scheme.
