Expectant military mothers receive baby shower

CORAOPOLIS, Pa. — The March of Dimes and Philips hosted an educational baby shower for more than 35 expectant military mothers and fathers Wednesday.

Mothers-to-be were given surprise gifts filled with baby supplies at the 171st Air Refueling Wing at the Pittsburgh International Airport.

The March of Dimes throws educational baby showers to expecting military mothers who may not receive a baby shower otherwise.

“Mission: Healthy Baby” is designed to address the special needs of military members who may be stationed far away from family and friends, or who may be deployed while their partner is home, expecting a child.

High stress levels, which could be caused by a partner deployment, may contribute to a premature birth or low birth-weight in full-term babies.

Military mothers and fathers can request Mission: Healthy Baby materials by sending their name and address to missionhealthybaby@marchofdimes.org.
