Father accused of letting daughter live in house of filth defends himself

PITTSBURGH, Pa. — The house on Traymore Street in Beechview is so overgrown with vines and weeds, it looked abandoned.

According to police, a first-grader lived there with her dad until Sunday, when the child was removed and the father was charged with endangering the welfare of children.

From the street, you can see part of the porch is falling down and a trash can filled with old garbage.

Inside the home, police said they found rotting food and garbage, ants crawling all over the bed, rat droppings on toys and clothes, and no running water in the bathroom. Officers believed the house should be condemned.

Channel 11's Renee Kaminski spoke with the child's father, George Neubauer. He said conditions in the home aren't as bad as police said they are.

"I need to clean the house," he said. "What can I say? I need to clean the house. It's not rat feces."

Neubauer just bought a bag of garbage bags and started to clean-up process.

He said, "I had a job. I had to quit because my kid was in school and there was nobody to watch her at night."

Because he's cooperating, he was not taken to jail, but the daughter was taken away.
