SOUTH UNION TOWNSHIP, Pa. — A Fayette County cemetery is struggling to care for the graves of those buried there due to a lack of funding.
Oak Grove Cemetery in South Union Township contains the burial sites of Revolutionary War and Civil War veterans, but the cemetery is running out of money to maintain the property.
Gary Brian, head of the court-appointed board, said it costs the cemetery $3,900 each time the grass is cut.
“It's not like a church cemetery, maybe a few acres. It's 15 acres. It's a major undertaking to get it cut. We have very few lots left. We don't have any way to generate revenue right now,” said Brian.
A meeting to discuss ways to raise money for Oak Grove Cemetery will be held at 10 a.m. Tuesday at the First National Bank on West Main Street in Uniontown.
