Friends Mourn Death Of Student Killed In Apparent Murder-Suicide

PITTSBURGH,None — Friends of a 21-year-old St. Vincent College student are mourning his death after police said he died in what appears to be a murder-suicide.

Matt Russo was found dead in his mother's car on Wednesday night in a Red Lobster parking lot on Route 30.

Police said Russo and his mother died of gunshot wounds, but investigators have not said who pulled the trigger. Channel 11's Courtney Brennan reported that the gun used in the shooting was registered to Mary Russo and that she died one minute after her son.

Friends of Matt Russo said his death seems unfair, senseless and incredibly sad because he was a talented and kind person.

"It was kind of a shock for everyone because he was really a nice guy and he was overall just a good person," said friend Anthony Altieri.

"He loved kids. We did this things called, 'Step Up', which is for home schooled kids and stuff like that," said sophomore Angela Lusk. "I saw him walking and he had all these little kids and he was holding their hands and telling them where to go. He was just a sweetheart."

Students planned a vigil in honor of Matt Russo for Thursday night at the St. Vincent College chapel.
