PITTSBURGH,None — Pittsburgh continues to live up to its nickname "Hollywood of the East" as another new movie continues to film in the Steel City this summer.
"One For The Money" will star Katherine Heigl, best known for her role as "Dr. Izzie Stevens" on "Grey's Anatomy," and in the popular films "Knocked Up" and "27 Dresses."
Principal production on the film began July 12 and is expected to last thru September.
"One For The Money" sets have been spotted in Ambridge, Wilkinsburg, along North Avenue on Pittsburgh's North Side, at UPMC Braddock and in Shadyside.
Heigl was spotted on the Shadyside movie set in late July. The first on-set pictures of her, along with the first promotional photo released, can be seen in the WPXI.com slideshow by clicking here. Heigl is sporting curly, brown hair and is rocking a large Gucci bag.
See and Be Seen visited the set on the North Side on July 23. Set builders completely transformed the site of the former Garden Theater into a bustling part of town which included a tattoo parlor and beauty salon.
Crews were boarding up the area Friday as production was moving to another location, but said the North Side set will remain in place in case any scenes need to be re-shot.
Hollywood-based independent film production company Lakeshore Entertainment chose Pittsburgh as the location for this movie, although it will be disguised as Trenton, New Jersey when it hits the big screen.
Since many Pittsburgh residents are busy tracking Taylor Lautner this summer, life in the public eye has been relatively quiet for Heigl.
She was spotted dining at Chaya restaurant in Squirrel Hill on July 13 and was described as being very friendly by her server, Maggie, who also posed for a picture with the star. You can hear more about Maggie's encounter by clicking here.
"One For The Money" is based on the popular novel by New York Times Bestselling Author Janet Evanovich.
Heigl will play the female lead of "Stephanie Plum." On the author's website it says of Plum, "She's a product of the "burg," a blue-collar pocket of Trenton where houses are attached and narrow, cars are American, windows are clean, and (God forbid you should be late) dinner is served at six...Out of work and out of money, with her Miata repossessed and her refrigerator empty, Stephanie blackmails her bail bondsman cousin, Vinnie, into giving her a try as an apprehension agent."
Lakeshore is familiar with the area, as it made "The Mothman Prophecies" here in 2001.
Pittsburgh-based Nancy Mosser Casting Agency handled the casting of speaking parts as well as extras for "One For The Money." See and Be Seen got a first-hand look at the open casting process.
Lionsgate has acquired distribution rights to the film which will be directed by Julie Ann Robinson and co-stars Jason O'Mara and Daniel Sunjata.
"One For The Money" is one of three movies filming in Pittsburgh this summer. "I Am Number Four," starring Alex Pettyfer and Dianna Agron is set to wrap at the beginning of August, while "Abduction," starring Taylor Lautner, just got started and is set to be in Pittsburgh into September. "Riddle," starring Val Kilmer, wrapped up principal production in June.
Pittsburghers are excited to see Hollywood stars in their neighborhoods. See and Be Seen has dozens of pictures and video of several "Taylor Sightings."
