Kindergartner gets police escort to school

DETROIT, MICHIGAN — A Michigan boy arrived in style with a full police escort for his first day school - but also with a heavy heart.

P.J. Hill started his first day of kindergarten this week.
His father, Detroit Police Officer Patrick Hill, was killed in the line of duty two years ago.  It was P.J.'s wish for his dad to take him to his first day of school, so Officer Hill's fellow police officers escorted P.J. and his sister by motorcade to school.
His mother, Deodge Hill, was moved by the honor, saying:  "I think it's a good representation of Big Patrick because I think that, although physically not here, spirtually he is always with us.  And then to have all of the people that he worked with, because he absolutely loved what he did, to come and be here was just even more presence."

Sergeant Gregory McWhorter was one of Officer Hill's colleagues and comforted the family by reminding P.J. that  "He has one central father, he always will. But he always has surrogant fathers, many, numerous, throughout the police department."

Officer hill left behind four children.
