OSAKA, JAPAN — The unlikely friendship of a kitten and an owl are getting a lot of attention on the internet this week. The pair make their home in the Hukulou Coffee Shop in Osaka, Japan.
The five year-old owl named Fuku-Chan and the two month-old Scottish Fold kitten named Marimo have become the best of friends. The owner of the shop put them together because he thought they looked alike. He's been posting videos and photos of them together since June. Pictures of the two sleeping together or seemingly kissing dominate Twitter if you search for the Japanese word for owl. It's unusual but not rare for animals of different species to become friends.
Animal rights groups point out that unlike kittens, owls do not desire human contact and the Japanese trend of captive owls in cafes is harmful.
