PITTSBURGH,None — A local couple who wanted to purchase tickets to a recent Steelers game said they were almost the victim of an online scheme, but were able to turn the tables before it was too late.
Christine Chiocca said she found a Craigslist advertisement offering tickets to the Steelers vs. Patriots game for face value. After emailing the person who posted the ad, she was told that the poster was unable to meet her in person.
Chiocca said the poster claimed to work for British Airways and couldn't use the tickets. She said the person asked her to wire $240 through Western Union.
Before sending the cash, Chiocca said she had her fiancé email the same person to ask about the tickets. She said the poster returned his email saying that the tickets were still available, and that's when she knew it was a scheme.
"At that point I knew it was completely fake. It was a total scam," Chiocca said.
Pittsburgh Steelers officials said the only way to know if you're buying authentic tickets is to get them from the team's ticket exchange.
