Local people, facilities dealing with coronavirus testing issues

PITTSBURGH — A local man says he fears he could have COVID-19 and has tried to reach out to numerous medical facilities to get tested.

He said after he came back from an overseas work trip he and wife started feeling sick. He thought the symptoms and the travel history lined up with a possible case of COVID-19, and he called six different facilities.

“They told me they would not approve me for testing. However, I should go into my doctor’s office and get every other test to illuminate those first,” he said.

He said his doctor told him to fill out an online form through UPMC. Health officials are now seeing if he can get tested at a local hospital.
