Man shot, killed in broad daylight in Homewood ID'd

PITTSBURGH — A man was shot and killed Wednesday afternoon in Pittsburgh's Homewood neighborhood, according to police.

The shooting was reported shortly after 2:30 p.m. on Frankstown Avenue, police said. The victim, who was later identified as Reginald Franklin Jr., 27, was pronounced dead at UPMC Presbyterian Hospital after suffering at least one gunshot wound.

Police blocked off Frankstown Avenue at North Homewood Avenue as their investigation got underway.

Investigators said they believe that Franklin was exiting a store when someone opened fire and then ran toward Sterrett Street.

"I heard gunshots, so I started walking in this direction and saw the police and saw the young man lying in the street," William Anderson, a witness, said.

Anderson said he heard about five or six shots.

Meanwhile, the manager of a restaurant across the street told Channel 11 News that she too heard the shots and looked outside. She recognized Franklin, who was lying in the street, as a regular customer.

The shooter is described as a black man, about 6 feet, 1 inch tall, with a thin build and shoulder-length dreadlocks.
