2 people taken to hospital after crash in Duquesne

DUQUESNE, Pa. — Two people were taken to a hospital after a crash involving two vehicles in Duquesne Thursday morning.

The 911 call for the crash in the intersection of Kennywood and Hoffman boulevards came in around 7:30 a.m. That intersection is near Kennywood amusement park.

Authorities on the scene said one car was turning and was hit by the other car coming in the other direction.

Duquesne Deputy Fire Chief Mike Kurta said that the drivers of both cars were taken to a hospital. It’s unknown what their conditions are.

“I think everyone tries to beat the light. That last minute decision and it kind of cost them,” Kurta said.

People who live in the area tell Channel 11 that the intersection where the crash happened is dangerous.

This is the same intersection where there was a fatal crash back in November involving two pedestrians and a pickup truck. An 18-year-old died, and the other person was taken to a hospital in critical condition.

A makeshift memorial hangs on the fence now.

Thursday morning’s crash shut down the southbound lanes of Kennywood Boulevard for over two hours as police investigated.

PennDOT was called in to spread sand on the slick oily road before it reopened.
