PITTSBURGH — A fire heavily damaged a Crafton Heights home — sending two people to the hospital, and killing two cats overnight.
“I hate to see something like this happen. I been getting calls all morning. People thought it was our house,” said Joe Peluso.
Longtime Crafton Heights resident Joe Peluso says his heart sinks when he looks at the aftermath of his neighbor’s beloved home.
“It was a beautiful house before that.”
Channel 11 was there as a restoration company began boarding up the windows.
The front rooms were heavily charred, and rubble was scattered on an awning.
Overnight, we captured fire crews as they climbed onto the roof of the Crafton Heights property and tried to ventilate it.
Pittsburgh firefighters were called to Dickens Street just before 1 a.m.
When they arrived, flames and smoke appeared to be pouring from upstairs.
Peluso was watching from a distance, praying out loud, knowing people were at home at the time and possibly asleep.
“It woke me up with all the red lights going off. But I just hope everybody that’s OK that was in there,” said Peluso.
The people living there somehow managed to get out before flames took over.
However, they were both rushed to the hospital for treatment.
Tonight, Peluso says the community is ready to lend a hand to those who are clearly going through so much.
Fire officials are still working to determine what started the fire.
There is no word on how the victims are doing.
