It’s official: 2024 was a noteworthy year for Pittsburgh International Airport, marking the highest passenger totals in 18 years and the highest ever in another key measure.
There were 9.945 million passengers that went through Pittsburgh International Airport during the year, up 8.1% from 2023. That makes it the highest number of passengers at PIT since 2006, when parts of the US Airways hub remained. The highest total number of passengers in the past 20 years occurred in 2004, when there were 13.3 million passengers before the airline began the process of taking away the hub. US Airways’ use of the airport not only included passengers arriving and leaving Pittsburgh but also connecting passengers traveling through PIT to another destination.
Now connecting passengers are a small part of the overall. All but a handful of passengers have Pittsburgh either as the starting or ending point of their journey, 9.7 million of the 9.9 million in 2024. According to data released Friday at the Allegheny County Airport Authority’s monthly board meeting, the origination/destination (O&D) passenger totals were the highest ever for Pittsburgh International Airport.
