Ambridge parents charged after 3-year-old son found alone blocks from home

AMBRIDGE, Pa. — An Ambridge couple is facing a charge of endangering the welfare of children after police said their 3-year-old son was found sitting near a busy intersection three blocks away from his house.

Katie Walden, 33, and Todd Chehovitz were charged after the incident last Thursday, according to the police report.

Investigators said a woman alerted police after she saw the boy alone near the intersection of Duss Avenue and Fifth Street.

According to police, Officer Emily Bielewicz picked up the child about 9 a.m. and took him home. Bielewicz said Walden was asleep when she arrived at the house.

“I asked him where he lived and he said, ‘Out there,’” Bielewicz said. “I took him to his house and had to knock on the door for a while because people inside were asleep."

According to police, Thursday’s incident wasn’t the first time they’ve been to the home.

“We’ve dealt with this couple before. We told them to put a deadbolt on the front door,” Bielewicz said.

Walden’s preliminary hearing is scheduled for Oct. 12.
