The suspect has been identified as 20-year-old Devin Stevenson.
Police in Erie County told the The Associated Press that Stevenson faces charges of attempted homicide, possessing an instrument of crime and aggravated assault.
University President Julie Wollman said in a statement on Saturday that the school immediately suspended Stevenson.
“These incidents are out of character with our peaceful university and the broader community. Violence has no place here and will not be tolerated,” she said.
The names of the victims have not been released, but they were last heard to be in serious condition at a hospital in Erie.
The campus was placed on lockdown for several hours overnight following the shooting.
The shooting was the second this academic year near the university.
“We are deeply concerned that gun violence has disturbed the peace of our community for a second time this academic year. As always, university police are collaborating with borough and state police in the investigation of this crime,” said Wollman.
