Bald eagle egg hatches in Pittsburgh

PITTSBURGH — A historic hatching took place in Pittsburgh's Hays neighborhood.

An eaglet was first seen at about 2:30 p.m. Friday.

After the hatching, one of the parents covered up the eaglet and two remaining eggs with straw.

A livestream camera showing the nest is provided by Murrysville-based PixController Inc., which is working with the Pennsylvania Game Commission.

This is the second year this pair of bald eagles has nested in Hays. They raised an eaglet that fledged last summer.

The bald eagle is the national animal of the United States of America.
