Zubik presided over a ceremony that’s been held for 24 years now on Holy Saturday, the day before Easter.

Participants gathered on Mount Washington at an overlook directly across the street from the Saint Mary of the Mount Parish for the service.

The ceremony was an opportunity to build unity between different denominations, religious leaders said.

“We are people of hope, because Christ is risen from the dead, and, if that is true, then nothing else matters,” said Bishop Kurt Kusserow of the Evangelical Lutheran Church of America.

Parishioners from across the Christian faith attended the service as nearly a dozen denominations were represented Saturday morning.
