Westmoreland County Coroner Kenneth Bacha identified the woman as Laura Wilkinson, 36. Her body was discovered shortly before 10 a.m. Sunday in a wooded area off Caven Road in Cook Township, not far from where her vehicle was found Saturday.
Wilkinson was a lecturer of chemistry and assistant lab manger in the Herbert W Boyer School of Natural Sciences, Mathematics at St. Vincent College in Latrobe.
"The entire Saint Vincent community is mourning the loss of Laura, who was a 2002 graduate of the college… We are sending our prayers and offering any assistance we can to her husband, Jay, and to their family," said Norman Hipps, president of St. Vincent College.
According to the statement, campus ministers, counseling staff and residence life staff will be available to all members of the campus community for support.
A memorial service is being planned and arrangements will be shared with students, faculty and staff as soon as they are available.
The cause and manner of Wilkinson's death have not been determined, pending the results of an autopsy.
