Borough officials say volunteers needed to help clean up Beaver County cemetery

BEAVER COUNTY, Pa. — A Beaver County cemetery has come under scrutiny recently after neighbors complained about its appearance.

Channel 11’s Vince Sims visited Lacock Cemetery in East Rochester Borough on Wednesday and reported weeds as tall as 6 feet in some areas.

Neighbors who live near the cemetery said the grass is often overgrown, and at times covers the actual graves.

“It’s a shame. When you’re dead, you deserve more than this,” neighbor Calvin Chambers said. “Once in a while, other people from the church will come and cut some of the weeds down.”

Borough officials said they don’t own the cemetery and that the Rochester Area Historical Society took care of it in the past, but it’s now defunct.

According to borough officials, the man who was primarily taking care of the cemetery died. They said the only way to clean up the cemetery is with volunteers.

The last scheduled cleanup at the cemetery was in 2007 as part of a Moon Area High School senior project.
