Junior firefighter injured while responding to fire call in Washington Co.

CHARLEROI, Pa. — Authorities are investigating an accident that sent a junior firefighter to the hospital Monday afternoon in Washington County.

According to police, Brandon Schwalb, 14, ran into a moving car near the Charleroi Monessen Bridge about 4 p.m. while responding to a fire call.

Schwalb was flown to UPMC Children’s Hospital to be treated for a broken leg and a possible hip fracture.

A spokesperson for the Lock 4 Volunteer Fire Company confirmed to Channel 11's Shelby Zarotney that Schwalb is one of their junior firefighters.

The accident remains under investigation.
