Businessman, anonymous woman team up to buy new band uniforms for Connellsville students

CONNELLSVILLE, Pa. — Students in the Connellsville Area High School marching band desperately needed new uniforms, so one local business owner and a generous citizen stepped up in a big way to help.

A student from the school initially approached Marty Rottler at Davies Ford along Route 119 in Connellsville, and the pair agreed to hold a car wash at the dealership to benefit the band.

Rottler pledged a matching gift of up to $1,500 for the uniforms and waited for the car wash, which took place Tuesday.

But then something miraculous happened.

An anonymous woman came into the dealership and told Rottler she had heard about the uniforms and the band members’ quest to buy new ones.

That’s when she handed over a check for $1,500 addressed directly to the marching band.

“Paying it forward as they say, it’s awesome to see people with huge hearts who all came out to support a great cause,” Rottler said.

That gift, combined with the dealership’s pledge, put the students over their mark of $3,000 even before the car wash started.

All told, the students raised $5,500.

The anonymous woman only said that she is new to the area and thought the donation would help her feel more connected to the community.

The band members raised enough money not only to pay for the uniforms but also to help pay for upcoming band trips.
