WATCH: Tractor-trailer rig slams into Giant Eagle in New Kensington

NEW KENSINGTON, Pa. — Shoppers were in shock the moment the front half of a tractor-trailer crashed into the beer and wine section of the Giant Eagle in the New Kensington Shopping Center.

Police and fire crews were called to the Giant Eagle on Tarentum Bridge Road at around 6:45 p.m.

A video obtained by Channel 11 shows the moments the detached tractor-trailer rig barreled into store, hitting a car in its path.

According to our partners at TribLive, the driver of the truck wasn’t inside the cab when all of this happened. He was at a nearby restaurant getting food when it started rolling down the parking lot.

Channel 11 reached out to Giant Eagle to find out how much damage was caused or if any inventory was lost. A spokesperson declined to comment but said no injuries were reported.

“Sometimes people are lucky, sometimes they’re not. That time was a good time to have luck on your side,” said Mike Konopski, who visits the store regularly.

The store will remain open during its normal hours until work is finished.
