Coal truck overturns, driver injured on Route 30 in Independence Twp.

INDEPENDENCE TOWNSHIP, Pa. — A coal truck overturned along Route 30 in Independence Township on Tuesday, dumping out its entire load.

Police said the truck spilled its load near DJ's Quick Stop around 10 a.m. Tuesday.

According to officials, the driver told emergency workers that he was dumping his load when the truck tipped over.

Authorities said the driver, whose name has not been released, was pulled out of the truck through the front window.

The driver complained of back pain after the accident and was taken to Beaver Medical Center with non-life-threatening injuries. His condition has not been released.

Independence Volunteer Fire Department Asst. Chief Patrick Riley said the department is prepared for emergencies like this one.

"We got what we call a heavy rescue in our adjoining townships and they come assist us," Riley said. "Not too often do you get tractor-trailers that roll over."

Police said the incident is under investigation.
