DRAVOSBURG, Pa. — Police in the Pittsburgh suburbs are searching for the driver of a sport utility vehicle who may have been wounded when officers fired shots at the vehicle after the man drove into two police cruisers and tried to run down an officer, police said.
Police said the incidents began about 2:15 a.m. in West Mifflin, where police pulled over 24-year-old David Ausburn's SUV for driving erratically.
Emergency dispatchers said Ausburn then took off and led police through McKeesport and onto Scott Drive in Dravosburg.
Channel 11's Dave Bondy reported that four people were in the white Dodge Durango during the chase. Allegheny County police have questioned and released the three other men in Ausburn's vehicle.
Police said Ausburn, whose also known as Craig Wavy Dollars, tried to ram the SUV into police who were standing on the street.
Ausburn hit several police cars in an attempt to run over the officers, police said.
Investigators said police fired more than a dozen shots at Ausburn. A total of 13 bullet holes were found in the driver's side door.
Officials said they are concerned that Ausburn may be dangerous, but also that he may be wounded and in danger himself. Investigators said there’s a chance he was hit by a bullet when he was running away.
Doug Cole was inside his house when he heard Ausburn and police yell at each other.
“I heard pop, pop, pop, pop, pop and the car tore out of here and the cop cars went after him,” Cole said.
Dravosburg resident Bob Wunderley said he’s surprised because nothing like this has happened in the neighborhood before.
“This is a quiet community and I was really shocked to hear this especially my neighbor’s car getting hit with a bullet. It’s scary stuff going on out there,” Wunderley said.
No officers were hurt in the incident.
Anyone with information on Ausburn’s whereabouts is asked to contact police.
