ARMSTRONG COUNTY, Pa. — A crash shut down a portion of an Armstrong County Road overnight Thursday.
Dime Road in Parks Township was shut down for about 8 hours Thursday morning after the driver crashed into a utility pole, brought down wires and damaged a portion of fence.
”It actually woke me up, because I was sleeping with the TV on, and the TV went off and the lights, and I heard it to click, click, click with appliances and came right back on,” neighbor Robert Mann said.
The crash knocked out power to nearby neighbors for a few minutes.
Crews spent the morning replacing the pole and detouring traffic.
Mann said it’s not the first accident that’s led to Dime Road being shut down in recent weeks.
”This road is known for accidents, people speed up here quite a bit. It’s nothing new. The last 2 weeks, this road was shut down twice due to 2 accidents,” Mann said.
State police in Kittanning said the driver initially took off but did not make it far.
Troopers caught up with the driver and took them into custody for suspicion of driving under the influence.
Troopers are expected to release more details about who that driver is and what they are facing.
