Employees assaulted during Brownsville gas station robbery

BROWNSVILLE, Pa. — Two employees at a Brownsville gas station were assaulted by a man who then robbed the store Sunday night.

Police arrested Frank Rafitz, of Grindstone, Fayette County, Monday morning after they said he showed up at Sweet Pea’s Shell gas station Sunday and yelled for the two employees to turn on the pump.

According to the criminal complaint, the employees, who knew Rafitz to be a regular customer, turned on the pump and Rafitz pumped $30 of gasoline.

Rafitz then allegedly tied a towel around his face and went into the store, where he grabbed and pushed one of the employees into an office and threw the employee to the ground, police said.

Authorities said the second employee was then dragged to the cash register by Rafitz. He got away with $383, police said.

“If they know who you are and you cover your face after, it's stupid,” said Phil Huffman.
