Ex-church volunteer faces fed detention hearing in child porn case

PITTSBURGH (AP) — A former western Pennsylvania youth pastor has pleaded not guilty but waived a detention hearing on charges he possessed child pornography, some with adults performing sex acts with infants.

By waiving the detention hearing, 45-year-old Andrew Patterson, of Monroeville, will remain in jail until he can stand trial.

Officials with the Living Waters Family Worship Center in Irwin say Patterson resigned his volunteer youth counselor position hours before his arrest in October.

Patterson was first charged by state authorities after an undercover detective allegedly traced porn he found on the Internet to Patterson's computer.

Federal prosecutors took over the case and Patterson now faces up to 20 years in prison if convicted.
