The Exchange in Squirrel Hill robbed at gunpoint; Third of kind in recent weeks

PITTSBURGH — Police are investigating the armed robbery of The Exchange store in Squirrel Hill, the third of its kind in recent weeks.

The robbery happened shortly before 4 p.m. Saturday at the Forbes Avenue business.

According to Public Information Officer Sonya Toler, a man walked into The Exchange and pushed a customer out of the way. He then pointed a gun at a store clerk behind the counter and demanded money.

"He turned around and said, 'If anybody moves, I'm going to shoot you,'" a customer, who did not want to be identified, told Channel 11 News.

The robber left the store after the clerk put an undisclosed amount of money into a plastic bag, police said. The robber was seen heading toward Shady Avenue.

"This is scary because we could have been here. If we left a little bit earlier, we would have been inside," said Sabrina Mosley.

Police said the robber was wearing dark jeans, a black hooded sweatshirt, a dark gray vest coat, black gloves and a black spandex mask. He is described as being 6 feet tall.

Anyone with information is asked to call police.

In recent weeks, two other robberies have occurred at other The Exchange stores.

The first took place in Monroeville.

On Dec. 2, The Exchange in Ross Township was targeted. An employee was shot.

Police are not saying if Saturday's robbery is connected to the previous two.
