Family demands answers after murdered dogs found on display

BROWNSVILLE, Pa. — Police are investigating and a family is looking for answers after its dogs were killed in Fayette County.

John Hosler told Channel 11's Cara Sapida his dogs – Sage and Ivan – got loose last week by digging a hole under the fence at their Brownsville home.

“I thought they would be back in 20 minutes,” he said. “The pit bull has never left our property ever.”

When they didn’t return, Hosler and his family began a massive search for the dogs. They even offered a reward.

Hosler said then, a few days later, he got a call that the dogs had been found. They were shot in the face.

“I hope somebody finds (whoever is responsible). I truly do,” Hosler said.

Investigators told Channel 11 News that a truck driver spotted the dogs off Route 166, more than 5 miles away from their home.

“They were found back-to-back, head-to-head, tail-to-tail, paws spread out,” said John Hosler Jr. “Both were shot in the face straight on.”

The younger Hosler said he picked up his dogs and took them home Wednesday night.

“I carried them and buried them. It was hard,” he said.

The elder Hosler said he’s not sure why anyone would purposely kill his dogs.

“They were family pets, loveable pets. Kids love them and there was never a complaint about our dogs,” he said.

So far, no arrests have been made.

“Anyone who would kill an animal like that, especially as kind as those dogs were, has got to be a sick person,” he said.

Anyone with information on the case is asked to contact police.
