Authorities said a man apparently lying in the road in front of a Westmoreland County school was struck and killed by a car early Monday morning.
Officials said the accident happened shortly after 1:40 a.m. Monday in front of Yough High School in Sewickley Township.
State police said the pedestrian, identified as 54-year-old David Pedder, was apparently lying in the northbound lane of Lowber Road when he was hit by a car.

Police said the driver reported seeing what appeared to be an object in the road and swerved, but hit the man's torso and head. State police said the driver stopped and called 911.
“The operator swerved to miss the pedestrian, but unfortunately he did strike the pedestrian with his vehicle,” Pennsylvania State Police Trooper Steve Limani said. “The operator did turn around, went back and realized it was a pedestrian he had struck and notified police.”
Pedder, of North Huntingdon Township, was pronounced dead at the scene. A ruling on the cause and manner of death was delayed pending toxicology tests.
Pedder’s friend Dianne Zanos told Channel 11’s Dave Bondy he was a good person.
“He was very, very nice. He loved people and children. He would do anything for anyone,” Zanos said.
Limani said the driver will not be charged, calling the incident a tragic accident.
