Former President Barack Obama, Senate candidate John Fetterman rally in Pittsburgh

PITTSBURGH — Former President Barack Obama rallied for democratic candidate for senate John Fetterman in Schenley Plaza Saturday. Just three days before election day, in a state that could determine the balance of power in congress, the message from Democrats was clear — democracy, freedom and hope are on the ballot.

Former President Obama took the stage saying he was happy to be back in Pennsylvania and that he’s asking everyone in Pittsburgh to vote. Thousands, waving black, gold and Pitt blue Fetterman/Shaprio signs, packed into Schenley Plaza on a 77-degree and sunny November day to hear former President Barack Obama rally for Fetterman.

“The only way to make democracy is if we fight for it,” Obama said. “It starts with electing people who know you, see you, care about you, who have stood in your shoes.”

Obama told the crowd Fetterman is a fighter you want on your side and someone who knows Pennsylvania through and through.

“He knows what it’s like to get knocked down and back up,” Obama added. “John’s stroke changed who he cares about, his values, his heart.”

Fetterman walked out to “Renegade” and kissed his wife Giselle before taking the stage. He promised to fight for union jobs, hardworking Pennsylvanians and women’s healthcare.

“The PA seat is not for sale,” Democratic candidate for senate, John Fetterman told the crowd. “One of the most important races in the country right now. They spent 100 million to tear us down and look we’re still standing.”

While most who came to hear Obama speak say they’re voting for Fetterman and blue up and down the ballot, passionate Republicans also came to make their voices heard. Security quickly escorted them out of Schenley Plaza when the heckling began.

As the countdown to election day ticks closer, all eyes are on Pennsylvania and the senate race that could determine which party controls congress.

“Please send Dr. Oz back to NJ and please send me to Washington, D.C.,” Fetterman said.

“Vote for a country that is more fair and more equal and more just and more free. Let’s get to work,” Obama exclaimed.

From Pittsburgh, Obama and Fetterman traveled to Philly to rally with President Biden and Democratic candidate for governor, Josh Shapiro.
