A new memorial is taking shape in Somerset County to honor Pennsylvania firefighters who died in the line of duty.
Thursday, officials broke ground on the memorial, which is being built at the Remember Me Rose Garden, not far from the Flight 93 National Memorial.
The Pennsylvania Fallen Firefighters Foundation is leading the project. It was formed by Diane Ginter following the death of her husband.
“As a firefighter family myself, to know that I can come somewhere and know that my husband’s name will be on this wall and the 800-plus souls that would be forgotten to history, they will now be on this wall,” she said.
The memorial’s completion date has not been announced.
