Health Department issues consumer alert to Lawrenceville restaurant

None — LAWRENCEVILLE, Pa. -- The Allegheny County Health Department issued a consumer alert after an inspector found multiple violations at a Lawrenceville restaurant. Target 11 Consumer Investigator Robin Taylor got a look inside and talked to the owner.

Tram’s Kitchen is a small family-run Vietnamese restaurant on Penn Avenue in Lawrenceville.

The owner, Thao Le, showed Taylor around. Le said they're trying to do everything right after the health department found seven critical violations.

The health department sent an inspector to Tram's Kitchen after receiving multiple complaints from customers who said they got sick after eating there.

Tests are being done to see if something they were served made them ill.

In the meantime, the owner has voluntarily closed the restaurant to fix the violations.

"It may be very difficult for us to link these reported food borne illnesses to the restaurant," said Guillermo Cole, a health department spokesman.

However, the health department found multiple violations, which include food at unsafe temperatures.

The inspector found unrefrigerated eggs, along with tofu at 50 degrees and shrimp spring rolls at 64 degrees. These foods should be refrigerated at 41 degrees or less.

Tram's Kitchen was also cited for not protecting food from cross-contamination, and not having a certified food manager.

Le said Tram's Kitchen has been open for 15 years. He said they will stay closed until the health department gives them the all clear.

The restaurant has 10 days to fix the violations.
