Pittsburgh man killed, 2 others injured in downtown shooting

PITTSBURGH — A man was killed and two people were hospitalized after a shooting in Downtown Pittsburgh Thursday night.

Officials have identified the man killed as Lonnie Latham III, 23, of Pittsburgh.

According to Allegheny County 911, the shooting happened on Smithfield Street near Sixth Avenue at around 10:38 p.m.

Pittsburgh police said an officer working at Mellon Square Park heard shots fired in the area and found two people down near Strawberry Way.

Latham was found with a gunshot wound to the chest. An officer gave CPR until medics took him to the hospital in critical condition. He was later pronounced dead.

A woman who was found in the same location was shot in the lower extremities and taken to a hospital in stable condition. A third male was found nearby with a gunshot wound to the foot. He was taken to a hospital in stable condition.

Two males were taken for questioning at headquarters.

The investigation is ongoing.
