Landscaping truck, trailer catch fire in Allegheny County

EMSWORTH, Pa. — Some landscape workers were barely able to escape Friday morning when a fire started in the trailer connected to their truck and spread quickly.

Rick Rosser told Channel 11 that he and a co-worker for Walt’s Landscaping were putting their lawn mowers into the trailer when it burst into flames. They were just finishing a job on Ivanhoe Street in Emsworth at about 9:30 a.m.

“The left side went up in flames. [We] both ran out of the trailer,” said Rosser.

The hair on Rosser’s arms and head was singed as he escaped the burning trailer.

“It exploded next to me,” said Rosser.

The trailer went up in a matter of seconds because cans of gasoline and lawn mowers were inside.

“I heard a boom. I thought the mower backfired, but apparently not. Next thing I knew, it was up in flames,” said Justin Wilson, another Walt’s Landscaping employee.

The aftermath of the fire shows just how intense it was, destroying the trailer and everything inside.

No one was hurt, and the cause of the fire is yet to be determined.
