Liebold was a volunteer firefighter in Erie County before moving to the Pittsburgh area, according to WICU.
"No matter what time of the day it was, no matter what was going on, Kyle was always one the ones we could rely on to be there for us," Liebold’s former Deputy Fire Chief Kevin Tobin told WICU.
“He was very dedicated to the community, often pulling 24-hour shifts,” said Douglas Pascoe, Chief of Jefferson Hills Area Ambulance and EMS.
Liebold died Saturday in New Orleans, while working for Norfolk Southern Railroad. Investigators said he was hit by a train.
