PITTSBURGH — Two South Hills schools made the top 10 in U.S. News & World Report's ranking of the best high schools in Pennsylvania, and were the highest-ranked schools in this region according to figures released today.
Mt. Lebanon High School ranked 8th and Upper St. Clair High School ranked 9th in the state, the magazine reported in its annual school rankings. Mt. Lebanon was ranked 557th nationwide and Upper St. Clair was ranked 604th.
The two were the only schools in southwestern Pennsylvania to crack the top 10, though the second-ranked school was the Northwest Pennsylvania Collegiate Academy in Erie. Julia R. Masterman Laboratory and Demonstration School in Philadelphia was best in the state, and number 61 nationally.
Other highly ranked schools in southwestern Pennsylvania included Hampton High School, 13th in the state; Peters Township High School, 14th; North Allegheny Senior High School in Wexford, 17th; and Blackhawk High School in Beaver Falls, 18th.
